Planned events in 2010

-  Nowrooz Party (New Year Party) is a cultural and international festival that marks the beginning of the solar new year in the Afghan and Persian calendar, among others. The New Year party is an important integration opportunity as we invite members from Somali, Iranian, Pakistani, Indian, Kurdish, Irish and other communities. It takes place at the end of March and includes a music and dance exhibition.

-  For Mother’s Day, we would like to invite women from different communities and nationalities to hold various presentations regarding “adapting and integrating into Irish society.” There would be opportunity to exchange ideas and share experiences. This event takes place in May and will include an Afghan national music and national dance and exhibition.

- The educational seminar is a one day seminar about integration that takes place in July. For this, we would like to invite asylum seekers and refuges from different communities to hold presentations about “integration into Irish society.” There would be opportunity to exchange ideas and share experiences.

- The Eid Party is an event that takes place in October. It is the biggest holiday in Afghanistan and we invite members from Somali, Iranian, Pakistani, Indian, Kurdish, Central Asian and Irish communities. We are looking to include traditional Afghan food, dance and costumes. Eid can be a time of celebration with family and friends, but it can also be a time of  loneliness for people who are away from their homes and families. In this party, we provide gifts for children, elders and Afghan asylum seekers who have suffered during the war in Afghanistan.

- Christmas is a special time for children in Ireland, including children from an ethnic minority background. We are looking to organise a Children’s Art and Painting Competition where all children up to the age of 13 from ethnic minority communities are invited to send in entries to a drawing/painting contest to portray their experiences, hopes and understanding of Christmas. The contest accepts entries until the 19th of December. A prize will be given for the best drawing/painting. To identify the winner, we will organize a commission of five members. We will provide gifts for every child who participating in the competition as a token for their effort
